March / April
A lot of exciting things are happening at JHS 194. We hosted our first Anti-Bullying Conference, which received positive feedback from students, parents and staff. Please visit the page titled "Anti -Bullying Conference" to view a slideshow of our fabulous students and the days events! Our Student Government formed a new administration and is off to a great start. They raised over $400.00 during their bake sale during Parent/Teacher conferences. Thank you to all the families who contributed either store bought or homemade treats! The kids had a great time showing their school spirit. Congratulations and best wishes to all our 8th grade students who just received the results of their high school selections! Over 10% of our graduating class received an acceptance to the Specialized High School of their choice.
The General Membership voted on March 6th to spend $8,000.00 on transportation for the 8th grade end-of-year trip and $1,480.00 to pay for teacher salaries in order to ensure students have enough time to prepare for the spring play. In addition, we are pleased to announce the approval of an expediture of $4,000.00. This will allow us to furnish our Video Department wih 12 HD video cameras, 8 DVD recorders/players, camera cases, tripods and blank DVDs. This will lead to an enriching, hands-on learning experience for all our Video classes. Thank you to our tireless School Store Volunteers who make these purchases possible!!
On March 30th the State Senate and the State Assembly passed legislation 6-27-B/A8683-B which restores busing to our 7th and 8th grade College Point students! Thank you to Senetor Tony Avella who co-sponsored the bill and Councilman Dan Halloran for his support and efforts on behalf of our families. It was through the perserverance of several parents that this injustice was rectified! Thank you on behalf of the entire JHS 194 community!

We have two very exciting spring fundraisers! The first is "Sell your Gold Night". Members from MGB mining will be here to test, weigh and buy your unwanted gold. If you plan on coming please make sure your R.S.V.P. is returned by March 12th, 2012. A light dinner will be served. The flyer can be downloaded from the page titled"Additional Notices". The second fundraiser is "Nature's Vision". Catalogs will be distributed on March 26th and will run through April 20th. This was a very successful fundraiser last year. The products offered were of high quality and also contributed to helping several environmental organizations. Based on our sales, "Nature's Vision" sends our school additional items. We had over 40 catalog items sent to us last year. To say thank you, we raffled off all items to the students who participated. The flyer and additional forms can be downloaded by going to: http://www.naturesvisionfundraising.com/ (Spring Catalog and additional forms).
The 8th Grade Student Government is hosting a Ponytail Drive on Monday June 10th. All ponytails donated will be transformed into high quality wigs for woman undergoing cancer treatment.
